This DNA test determines whether a bird is male (ZZ) or female (ZW) by amplifying sex-linked genetic markers. Results provide a reliable, science-based answer –– especially for chicks and species with no visible sexual dimorphism at hatch. Visual sexing in many bird species is unreliable or delayed until maturity. DNA sexing provides clarity immediately, allowing breeders and owners to make informed decisions early on.
At Knights DNA Testing, poultry samples are processed using PCR-based DNA testing with results typically available the same day samples arrive at the lab.

Sample Type: Blood on the tip of a coffee filter cut into a triangle.
- We do not accept eggshell membrane for this test
- We do not accept feathers for this test.
