This PCR-based DNA test detects the recessive white allele (c) responsible for inhibiting pigment deposition in feathers, allowing breeders to distinguish between carriers, non-carriers, and visually white chickens caused by this gene.

Recessive white is a fully recessive, pigment-inhibiting mutation. Chickens that are c/c will appear white and can mask underlying color and pattern genetics. Chickens that are C/c are carriers and can produce white offspring when paired with another bird carrying the same allele.
This test does confirm:
-
Presence or absence of the recessive white allele (c)
-
Carrier status (C/c)
-
Genotype of visually white birds (distinguishes recessive white from other causes)
This test does NOT confirm:
-
Dominant white
-
Other white or dilution genes
-
Pattern or color hidden beneath white
